Free Backup Utility Program
Peter's Backup solves problems that the backup programs
that come with operating systems as well as commercial
backup programs do not address.
- Full and incremental backups
- Restore a file to any previous version
- Automatically keeps track of where every version of
each file is stored
- Keep track of deleted files so that files that
have been removed on purpose are not restored. Note it is always possible to override
the default behaviour and restore files that have been deleted.
- Supports fixed or removable disks
- Does not use archive attributes. You can have
multiple sets of backups going at the same time of the
same files and they will each be consistent
- Use wild-cards and multiple options allowing
selective backups of files and exclusion of temporary and
work files
- Messages and screens are in English, Dutch, German and Polish. If anybody
is willing to translate into another language some 200 messages, please contact me,
or use the "translate this application" option on the help menu.
- Back up can be encrypted to ensure privacy of your data.
You can back up your data files on to disk, diskette, CD
or DVD. Peter's backup will keep track of file versions and
disks. You can restore any file to any previous version
without having to know on which disk or in which backup set
it is located. You can create unlimited incremental
backups. This saves time, backups and restores are very
fast.
Requirements
Any system that supports Java 1.6 or higher. This
includes Windows 2000 and above, Solaris and Linux. For
detailed requirements visit the
Sun Java Site.
Prior Versions
For windows 95, 98, ME, NT-4 use Peter's Backup version
2.5. For early versions of windows 95 use Peter's Backup
version 1.15.
Usage
This program is intended for backing up your important
documents. I do not recommend backing up an entire disk.
Files that are in use may not be backed up and files that
are being updated while the backup is running will not be
backed up correctly. Operating system files should not be
backed up with this program.
Backup Options
- Individual Files.
- Multiple files in a directory with a wildcard
specification.
- Entire directory structures.
- Files in a directory structure matching one or more
wildcard specifications.
- Exclusion of files matching wildcard
specifications.
- Exclusion of directories within a directory
structure.
- Scheduled backups or backups from the command line
can be done with a command line switch.
Restore Options
- A full restore will get back all of the files that
were in place at the last incremental backup.
- You can select individual files to restore and select
any individual date version of a file.
- In any restore operation you can restore to the
original or a different location.
- You can choose whether to overwrite existing files or
only overwrite older files.
